VIDEO: What Visas Should Your Spouse And Children Apply For?

Lesson Progress
9% Complete

THINGS TO NOTE

  1. Apply for spouse – spousal open work permit (if the international student qualifies)
  2. Children 6 years and above – study permit
  3. Children 5 years and below – visit visa

For family visas, please it is advisable to use the GCKey, which is the old portal and not the new portal……especially if a spouse is included who is applying for a work permit (the new portal does not have work permit application)

The new portal is primarily for for study and visit and does not have the spousal open work permit

Visit visa needs to be changed to visitor record for children who are studying in Canada. Their visit visas will expire in 6 months – apply for a study permit for them or a visitor record so they can maintain a valid status in Canada

When you extend your study permit as the international student, every other person’s permit (children and spouse) should be extended too because they are all dependent on the study permit of the international student

All the best
