Summary: Changes to PGWP eligibility criteria

If you submit your study permit before Nov 1st, you are affected by the language requirements only whether college or university

If you submit your study permit after Nov 1st, you are affected by the language requirements whether college or university. If you are studying at a college or programs that are not bachelors, masters or doctoral, you also are subject to the field of study requirement

Field of study requirement

If your study program has a field of study requirement, you must graduate from a program linked to certain occupations in long-term shortage. The fields of study are divided into 5 broad categories:

  • agriculture and agri-food
  • healthcare
  • science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • trade
  • transport

Make sure you check through the link to see the programs that qualify. Note that some programs in health care are not really healthcare so please check through
